Resumen:

This chapter offers an overview of the way the Mexican media system works by identifying key stakeholders and pinning down the main contextual transformations shaping today's media landscape both at home and abroad. It describes the social, economic, historic, and political characteristics of contemporary Mexico's media system. The chapter analyses the current challenges that will shape the system in the coming years. It then presents a prospective scenario for the trends that will define Mexico's media landscape in relation to two very distinctive characteristics: one, a regionally fragmented representation of coexisting national media subsystems that articulate through strong symbolic cultural identity cues, and two, a growing Hispanic market in the United States and Latin America that amounts to a potential distribution channel of millions of people outside Mexico sharing those very cultural codes and products. © 2025 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
